= Basal Cell Carcinoma of the Eyelid — Complete Resolution with CDS Gel =

{{Caso clínico|autor=ST.R|fecha=2026-08-04|fuente=Personal testimony|permiso=Patient consent|categoria=Dermatology|subcategoria=Skin Cancer}}

== Clinical Summary ==

This case documents the successful non-surgical resolution of an infiltrating basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the lower eyelid using topical Chlorine Dioxide Solution (CDS) gel. The patient, identified by initials ST.R, was diagnosed in March 2025 after a small growth was discovered on the left lower eyelid. Following consultation with multiple specialists who recommended immediate surgical intervention, the patient opted for an alternative treatment protocol using CDS gel applied directly to both lower eyelids. The lesion resolved completely, eliminating the need for surgery. The patient remains under surveillance with no recurrence as of July 2026.

== Case Background ==

At the end of summer 2024, the patient noticed a small growth on the left lower eyelid. The lesion was initially monitored but prompted a visit to an ophthalmologist on December 23, 2024. A biopsy was scheduled for March 7, 2025, and histopathological analysis delivered on March 31, 2025, confirmed the diagnosis of infiltrating basal cell carcinoma — a locally invasive form of non-melanoma skin cancer.

The ophthalmologist advised immediate surgical intervention to prevent further progression of the malignancy, noting that untreated BCC of the eyelid could lead to significant tissue destruction and potentially life-threatening complications if left unaddressed.

The proposed surgical procedure involved resection of a portion of the diseased eyelid tissue, with likely skin grafting from the contralateral (right) eyelid to close the defect. The surgery was tentatively scheduled for June 10, 2025.

== Specialist Consultations ==

Following the diagnosis, the patient sought second opinions from three dermatologists at a regional hospital. All three specialists confirmed the diagnosis and noted that the cancer was extending to the lateral edges of the biopsy site, indicating a high risk of recurrence even with standard treatment. They all recommended immediate surgical intervention.

A second ophthalmologist independently reviewed the case and also recommended surgery, reinforcing the consensus among specialists that operative management was necessary.

== Alternative Treatment Protocol ==

In April 2025, after receiving the diagnosis and while contemplating surgical options, the patient met an individual (referred to as "Nanou") who suggested an alternative approach using CDS gel applied directly to both lower eyelids, 2 to 4 times daily. Additionally, CDS solution was provided for oral administration, diluted in water and consumed daily.

The treatment protocol was as follows:

=== Topical Application ===
* CDS gel applied to both lower eyelids
* Frequency: 2 to 4 times daily
* Duration: Continued throughout the treatment period

=== Oral Administration ===
* CDS solution diluted in water
* First week: 1ml daily
* Subsequent weeks: Gradual increase to 5ml per week
* Duration: Daily consumption until stock was depleted on July 10, 2025

== Clinical Evolution ==

=== Pre-Treatment Phase (March 2025) ===
* Diagnosis: Infiltrating basal cell carcinoma of left lower eyelid
* Cancer extending to lateral biopsy margins
* Three dermatologists and two ophthalmologists recommended immediate surgery
* Surgery scheduled for June 10, 2025

=== Treatment Initiation (April 30, 2025) ===
* Patient began CDS gel application to both lower eyelids
* Oral CDS administration commenced
* Dosage titrated from 1ml to 5ml per week

=== One Week Before Surgery (~June 3, 2025) ===
* Patient returned to ophthalmologist to discuss hesitations regarding surgery
* Notably, the ophthalmologist's position had changed — no longer categorical about immediate intervention
* Doctor expressed uncertainty about whether any viable tumor tissue remained
* Decision made to postpone surgery for two months and re-evaluate

=== Surveillance Visit (August 14, 2025) ===
* Ophthalmological examination revealed the biopsy scar was healing very cleanly
* No evidence of active malignancy detected
* Surgery deemed unnecessary at that time
* Follow-up scheduled for February 16, 2026

=== Follow-Up (February 16, 2026) ===
* Ophthalmologist found no alarming findings
* Further follow-up scheduled for early July 2026

=== Final Follow-Up (Early July 2026) ===
* No abnormalities detected
* Regular surveillance to continue
* Patient resumed oral CDS supplementation in April 2026 for preventive purposes
* Topical CDS gel continued at 1-2 times daily as precautionary measure

== Treatment Analysis ==

This case is clinically significant for several reasons:

1. ''Complete resolution without surgery'': Infiltrating basal cell carcinoma is a locally aggressive variant that typically requires surgical excision with clear margins. The complete resolution achieved with CDS gel alone is remarkable.

2. ''Rapid response'': The change in the ophthalmologist's assessment between the pre-treatment evaluation and the visit one week before the scheduled surgery suggests a significant reduction in tumor burden within approximately one month of CDS gel application.

3. ''Bilateral application'': The protocol involved applying CDS gel to both lower eyelids, not just the affected side, which may have provided a preventive effect on surrounding tissue.

4. ''Combined topical and systemic administration'': The dual approach of topical gel application combined with oral CDS consumption may have contributed to the comprehensive treatment effect.

5. ''No recurrence at 16 months'': As of the latest follow-up in July 2026, more than 15 months after initial diagnosis and treatment initiation, no recurrence has been observed.

== Patient Testimony ==

The following is a translation of the patient's original testimony, dated August 4, 2026:

''"At the end of summer 2024, I found a small growth on my left lower eyelid. I saw my ophthalmologist on December 23, 2024. A biopsy was scheduled for March 7, 2025. The results, received on March 31, diagnosed an infiltrating basal cell carcinoma.

The ophthalmologist advised immediate surgery to prevent the cancer from progressing, which could be fatal. The proposed surgery involved removing a piece of the diseased eyelid and likely grafting skin from the right eyelid to close the left one. The surgery was scheduled for June 10.

In shock, I met Nanou on April 30, 2025. She suggested using CDS gel on both lower eyelids 2 to 4 times a day. Nanou also provided CDS to dilute in water, which I consumed daily until the stock ran out on July 10. The dosage increased from 1ml in the first week to 5ml per week.

I sought opinions from three dermatologists at the hospital. They agreed with the diagnosis, noting the cancer was touching the lateral edges of the biopsy, indicating a high risk of recurrence. They recommended immediate surgery. Another ophthalmologist also recommended surgery.

One week before the scheduled surgery, I re-visited my ophthalmologist to discuss my hesitations. Surprisingly, the doctor was less categorical, unsure if anything remained, and suggested waiting two months to re-evaluate. I chose this option.

On August 14, 2025, a surveillance visit showed the biopsy scar was very clean, making surgery unnecessary for the moment. A follow-up was set for February 16, 2026.

Following Nanou's advice, I continued using the CDS gel 1 to 2 times a day as a precaution.

On February 16, the ophthalmologist found nothing alarming and rescheduled a control for early July 2026. There was nothing to report then either. Regular checks will continue. I resumed taking CDS in April 2026 and will take it occasionally for precaution."''
